ZooBlocks — Free Block Puzzle Game with Cute Animals

ZooBlocks is a fresh take on the classic block puzzle genre. Place colorful animal blocks onto an ever-growing grid, clear lines and color matches, and chase high scores across infinite levels — all in your browser, no download needed.

How to Play

Each turn you get three random animal blocks in the tray at the bottom. Drag any block onto the board to place it. The goal is simple: fill entire rows or columns to clear them, or connect three or more same-color animals to pop them. Every clear earns points, and combos multiply your score.

Placing Blocks

Tap or drag a block from the tray, then drop it onto the grid. The block must fit entirely on empty cells — you can't overlap existing pieces. Once all three blocks are placed, three new ones appear. If none of the remaining blocks can fit anywhere on the board, the game is over.

Line Clears

When every cell in a row or column is filled, the entire line clears and you earn points. Clear multiple lines at once for exponential multipliers: two lines give ×4, three lines ×8, four lines ×16, and so on. Strategic placement to set up multi-line clears is the key to high scores.

Color Matching

Place an animal block next to existing animals of the same type, and if three or more are connected (horizontally or vertically), they pop and disappear. This happens alongside line clears — both systems trigger simultaneously, so a single placement can score from both a line clear and a color match at the same time.

Meet the Animals

Six adorable characters live on the ZooBlocks board. Each has a distinct look and color, making it easy to spot matching groups at a glance.

Level System

ZooBlocks features infinite procedurally generated levels. Each level gives you a set of goals to complete — clear a certain number of rows, score enough points, pop a specific animal type, or pull off a big combo. Complete all goals to advance.

Growing Board

Early levels start on a compact 4×4 board that's easy to fill and clear. As you progress, the board expands: 5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8, and eventually the full 9×9 grid. Larger boards mean more strategic possibilities but also more cells to manage.

Scaling Difficulty

Goals get progressively harder — more rows to clear, higher score thresholds, rarer color targets. Later levels combine multiple goals, demanding versatile play. There is no final level: the challenge grows as long as you keep playing.

Scoring & Combos

Points come from two sources. Line clears award 100 points per cell in the cleared lines, multiplied exponentially by how many lines you clear at once. Color pops award 100 points per cell removed. When both triggers happen on the same placement, you earn from both — making it worth planning moves that satisfy both systems simultaneously.

Pro tip: Try to leave one cell empty in a row while building up same-color animals nearby. When you fill that last cell, the line clear and the color pop fire together for a massive score.

Strategy Tips

Design Philosophy

ZooBlocks was built around three ideas: approachability, depth, and delight.

The cute animal characters and pastel color palette make the game inviting for casual players, while the dual clear system (lines + color matching) and exponential combo multipliers give puzzle veterans something to optimize. The growing board size creates a natural difficulty curve — no artificial paywalls or energy systems, just increasing challenge.

Every visual and audio detail is generated in code: the animal faces are inline SVGs that scale perfectly at any size, the sound effects are synthesized with the Web Audio API (no audio files to load), and levels are generated by algorithm (no hand-crafted content to run out of). The result is a game that loads instantly, runs smoothly, and never ends.

Accessibility & Languages

ZooBlocks works on any modern browser — desktop or mobile, mouse or touchscreen. The interface supports English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Switch languages any time from the globe icon in the top-right corner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ZooBlocks free?

Yes, completely free with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Do I need to download anything?

No. ZooBlocks runs entirely in your browser. You can also add it to your home screen on mobile for an app-like experience.

How many levels are there?

Infinite. Levels are generated procedurally, so there is always a new challenge waiting.

Is my progress saved?

Your all-time high score is saved locally in your browser. Level progress resets when you start a new game.

What happens when the board is full?

If none of the three blocks in the tray can fit on the board, the game ends. You can retry the current level or start from level one.
