ZooBlocks — Block Puzzle & Zoo Tycoon Game

ZooBlocks is two games in one: a challenging block puzzle and an idle zoo tycoon. Solve puzzles to earn diamonds, then spend those diamonds collecting, upgrading, and growing a zoo full of adorable animals. The better you play, the faster your zoo grows — and the bigger your zoo, the more rewarding each puzzle becomes. Play free in your browser, no download needed.

How It Works: The Core Loop

ZooBlocks is built around a simple but addictive cycle. You play block puzzle levels to earn points. Points convert directly into diamonds. Diamonds let you buy and upgrade animals in your zoo. Each animal generates diamonds every second while you play. More diamonds means more upgrades, which means even more diamonds per second. And the higher your zoo's output, the bigger the multiplier on your puzzle rewards — creating an ever-accelerating flywheel of progress.

Block Puzzle — How to Play

Each turn you get three random animal blocks in the tray at the bottom. Tap or drag any block onto the board to place it. The block must fit entirely on empty cells — you can't overlap existing pieces. Once all three blocks are placed, three new ones appear. If none of the remaining blocks can fit anywhere, the round ends.

Line Clears

When every cell in a row or column is filled, the entire line clears and you earn points. Clear multiple lines at once for exponential multipliers: two lines give ×4, three lines ×8, four lines ×16, and so on. Strategic placement to set up multi-line clears is the key to high scores.

Color Matching

Place an animal block next to existing animals of the same type, and if three or more are connected (horizontally or vertically), they pop and disappear. This happens alongside line clears — both systems trigger simultaneously, so a single placement can score from both a line clear and a color match at the same time.

Levels & Growing Board

ZooBlocks features infinite procedurally generated levels. Each level gives you a set of goals — clear rows, score points, pop a specific animal type, or pull off a big combo. Early levels start on a compact 4×4 board. As you progress, the board expands through 5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8, and eventually the full 9×9 grid. There is no final level: the challenge grows as long as you keep playing.

Diamonds — The Universal Currency

Every point you score in a puzzle converts directly into diamonds. Score 6,200 points and you earn 6,200 diamonds (before multiplier). As your zoo grows, a Puzzle Multiplier kicks in — your zoo's per-second diamond output determines the multiplier, so puzzle rewards scale alongside your zoo. A beginner might earn hundreds of diamonds per level; a late-game player earns billions.

My Zoo — Idle Tycoon Mode

Switch to the Zoo tab to manage your animal collection. Every animal you own generates diamonds automatically every second while you're in the game. You can watch the diamonds tick up in real time, with floating "+N" indicators on each animal card showing exactly how much each one contributes.

Buying Animals

New animals unlock as you clear puzzle levels. Each animal costs diamonds to purchase, and later animals cost significantly more — but they also produce far more per second. Unlocking a new animal always represents a massive leap in earning power.

Upgrading Animals

Every animal can be upgraded infinitely. Each upgrade increases its per-second diamond output. Early upgrades are cheap and fast; later upgrades cost more and take longer to save up for, but the income jump gets bigger and bigger. There is no level cap — you can keep upgrading forever.

The Strategy

Early animals like Bear grow slowly even at high levels, while late animals like Dragon scale explosively. The smart play is to invest in your newest, most powerful animal rather than pouring diamonds into older ones. This creates a natural drive to keep clearing puzzle levels so you can unlock the next animal — each one is a game-changing upgrade.

Meet the 12 Animals

ZooBlocks features 12 collectible animals, each with a unique look, color, and personality. The first six appear as puzzle blocks on the game board; the remaining six are exclusive zoo animals unlocked at later levels.

From the humble Bear that starts your journey, all the way to the legendary Dragon whose diamond output reaches the trillions — every animal is a milestone in your zoo-building adventure.

Scoring & Puzzle Multiplier

Points come from two sources in puzzle mode. Line clears award 100 points per cell in the cleared lines, multiplied exponentially by how many lines you clear at once. Color pops award 100 points per cell removed. When both triggers happen on the same placement, you earn from both.

Your Puzzle Multiplier is shown in the Zoo tab. It scales with your total diamond output per second — the bigger your zoo, the bigger the multiplier. This means improving your zoo directly makes every puzzle more rewarding, and vice versa.

Pro tip: Try to leave one cell empty in a row while building up same-color animals nearby. When you fill that last cell, the line clear and the color pop fire together for a massive score — which means massive diamonds.

Strategy Tips

Rescue Mode — Save the Animals

Rescue Mode is ZooBlocks' second game mode, inspired by viral puzzle games like 368 Chickens. Instead of clearing levels with fixed goals, your mission is simple: rescue 100 of a randomly chosen animal by clearing them from the board.

How Rescue Mode Works

Tap the Rescue tab at the bottom to start. The game picks a random animal as your rescue target and sets up a 9×9 board. Unlike Puzzle Mode where each block is a single color, Rescue blocks are multi-colored — every cell in a block can be a different animal. Place blocks, match three or more of the same animal in a row or column, and watch your rescue counter climb toward 100.

Rescue Levels & Difficulty

Rescue Mode has its own level progression. Early levels use only 3 animal types, making it easy to form matches. As you advance, more animals enter the mix — 4, then 5, then all 6 — spreading colors thin and making every match harder to set up. The animal pool is randomized each level, so you never play the same combination twice.

Massive Diamond Rewards

Completing a rescue level awards huge diamond payouts — far more than regular puzzle levels. Rewards scale three ways: higher rescue levels pay more (doubling each level), fewer moves earns an efficiency bonus (up to 3×), and your zoo's Puzzle Multiplier stacks on top. A skilled late-game player can earn millions of diamonds from a single rescue.

Design Philosophy

ZooBlocks was built around three ideas: approachability, depth, and endless growth.

The block puzzle provides satisfying short-session gameplay. The zoo tycoon layer adds long-term progression and idle-game satisfaction. The rescue mode adds a different flavor — a focused, high-stakes challenge with massive payoffs. Together they create a feedback loop where each mode makes the others more rewarding. There are no paywalls, no energy systems, no ads, and no caps — just pure, accelerating progress.

Every visual and audio detail is generated in code: the animal faces are inline SVGs, sound effects are synthesized with the Web Audio API, and levels are procedurally generated. The result is a game that loads instantly, runs smoothly, and never ends.

Accessibility & Languages

ZooBlocks works on any modern browser — desktop or mobile, mouse or touchscreen. The interface supports English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Switch languages any time from the globe icon in the header.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ZooBlocks free?

Yes, completely free with no ads and no in-app purchases. Everything is earned through gameplay.

Do I need to download anything?

No. ZooBlocks runs entirely in your browser. You can also add it to your home screen on mobile for an app-like experience.

How many levels are there?

Infinite. Puzzle levels are generated procedurally, and zoo animals can be upgraded without limit.

How many animals can I collect?

There are 12 animals total, from Bear to Dragon. Each unlocks at a specific puzzle level and can be upgraded infinitely.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Your zoo, diamonds, animal levels, and puzzle progress are all saved locally in your browser.

Do animals earn diamonds when I'm not playing?

Animals only generate diamonds while the game is open. Close the tab and the counter stops — this keeps the game fair and encourages active play.

What's the best strategy?

Focus on clearing puzzle levels to unlock new animals. Each new animal is a 10× jump in earning power. Upgrade your newest animal first, and only invest in older animals when you have diamonds to spare.

Is there an endgame?

There is no end. Puzzle levels keep generating, animal upgrades have no cap, and the numbers keep getting bigger. Dragon at high levels produces trillions of diamonds per second. How far can you go?
